Tilos is the outdoor collection that Kettal introduced with Antonio Citterio, presented at Salone del Mobile 2025 in Milan. It is the latest chapter in a long collaboration between the Spanish house and the Italian architect, and it reads less like a single chair than like a small family of seating built around one idea.

That idea is a sculptural shell of aluminium wrapped in hand-woven acrylic rope, shaped to cradle deep cushions. The shell sits on a base offered in either wood or metal, which lets the same seat shift between a softer, domestic register and a cleaner, more architectural one. Across the line there are armchairs, a two-seater and modular sofas, and dining chairs, the last in a stacking version without armrests and a non-stacking version with them.

The reference is the bamboo and rattan seating of the 1950s and 1960s, reinterpreted through industrial manufacturing rather than copied.

Tradition reworked, not copied

Citterio's brief was to merge the artisanal look of woven outdoor seating with the precision of contemporary production. The woven rope keeps the handcrafted reference visible, while the aluminium structure and the weatherproof build are squarely modern, made to live outside on a terrace or by a pool.

For the American buyer the practical notes are the usual ones for a European launch. Pieces shown in Milan reach US dealers some months later, and the choices that matter are the base finish and the cushion fabric, the parts built to weather a real terrace. Kettal is a Spanish house, founded in 1966 and based in Barcelona; the full story is in our Kettal profile.
