Salone del Mobile 2026: what mattered for outdoor design
The outdoor launches and directions that defined the Milan fair, framed for the US buyer.
Salone del Mobile ran from 21 to 26 April 2026 at Rho Fiera in Milan, with more than 1,900 exhibitors. As in recent years, outdoor was not a side line: terrace and garden collections held some of the most-watched stands, and the through-lines were material innovation, circular production and low, modular seating.
Among the headline launches, Cassina extended its Oasis of Now outdoor programme with Vidalenta by Patricia Urquiola, a system that sets soft padding against slender metal tubing used, in the studio's words, like a modern bamboo. Gloster returned with new outdoor lines built around durable materials and enduring comfort, and Sunbrella introduced its Vision Collection of warm textures and a sun-led palette.
Outdoor is no longer the afterthought of the fair; it is increasingly where the houses test their material thinking.

Framed for the US buyer
Beyond the marquee names, Couture Jardin showed four new outdoor collections under its “Shadows of Flora” theme, and Snoc presented sculptural, tactile pieces — both signs that the outdoor field keeps widening. The recurring note across stands was repairable, re-coverable design pitched as a selling point rather than a footnote.
For the American home the news is lead times and finishes, not headlines. Pieces shown in Milan typically reach US dealers months later, and the finishes that travel best are the ones built to weather a real terrace. The houses worth following are the ones still building for the room.
