Suro, Christophe Delcourt's teak-and-rope collection for Tribù
A close read of Suro, the French designer's seating line for the Belgian house, built on solid teak or aluminium and braided Trizo rope.
Among the new lines in Tribù's 2024 collection, Suro stands out for the way it pairs two materials the Belgian house has long worked in. Drawn by the French designer Christophe Delcourt, it sets a solid frame in teak or aluminium against a backrest of braided Trizo rope, the wood giving the seat its structure and the weave giving it its embrace.
Delcourt describes the result as a study in the mastery of materials and curves. The rounded, cocoon-like seat reads almost like a flower petal, the rope worked in a continuous line that softens the solidity of the frame beneath it. It is a quieter register than Tribù's larger modular systems, scaled for the chair rather than the sofa.
The wood gives the structure, the rope gives the embrace; the line is the symbiosis of the two.
Materials and curves
Suro spans a small family of pieces, an armchair, a lounge chair, a banquette and a dining table, all built on the same logic of frame and weave. It joins a 2024 roster that also brought Pure by Andrei Munteanu, Otto by Marc Merckx, Mai by Ilia Eckardt and Tao by Monica Armani to the catalogue.
