Carma was founded in 1990 in Bielefeld, in the East Westphalia region of Germany, and is run as a manufactory by designer Ralf Bartelsheim with Ruth Patrich. It built its name on luxury faux fur, called Webpelz in German, made into throws, plaids, bedspreads and cushions rather than seating or outdoor furniture.
Each piece is cut and sewn by hand in Germany from faux-fur cloth woven in France, Belgium and Italy, then lined with a wool and cashmere blend. The house presents itself as Europe's largest selection of faux furs. Awassi
A Carma faux-fur signatureAwassi is one of Carma's signature faux-fur throws, built from a deeply textured, sculpted pile that imitates natural fur. The face cloth is woven on the Continent in a specialised process, then cut and finished by hand at the Bielefeld manufactory.
Like the rest of the catalogue, it is backed with a soft wool and cashmere blend and can be made as a throw, a larger bedspread or a matching cushion in a chosen size. It is offered in taupe and black.
