Marset

A family-run Spanish lighting house near Barcelona, working in decorative and architectural light, read for the US buyer.

The house

A lighting house built on light, not fixtures.

Marset is a family lighting company with roots in the 1940s, when Paco Marset set up a metalworking foundry in the Les Corts district of Barcelona. The workshop moved into making luminaires around the mid-1960s, and in the 1990s the third generation, led by Xavier Marset, reset the company around design. It is now based in Terrassa, near Barcelona, in an 11,000 square meter facility, after decades in Badalona.

The catalogue runs from portable and decorative table lamps to pendants, floor lamps and outdoor fixtures, shaped by designers including Joan Gaspar, Inma Bermudez, Jordi Canudas, Fabien Dumas and Christophe Mathieu. Marset exports to more than fifty countries and has run its own US branch in New York since 2010; for US buyers, collections reach the market through authorised dealers.

In focus

Ginger

Designed by Joan Gaspar

Ginger is one of Marset's signature families, designed by Joan Gaspar, who has worked with the house since 1996 and shapes much of its product direction. Its defining element is a slim disc shade pressed from several layers of wood, paper and resin under high pressure, just a few millimetres thick, that hides the LED source and bounces a soft, warm light back into the room.

The collection has grown into a full system, running across pendant, table, floor and wall versions, with a portable table lamp and outdoor fixtures added over time. Shade finishes include natural wood veneers and painted options, so a single design language can carry across a whole interior.

Materials and craft

What the pieces are made of.

Across its range Marset works in powder-coated and anodised aluminium, steel, pressed wood veneers, hand-blown and moulded glass, polycarbonate and textile shades, with LED sources throughout. Outdoor lines such as Santorini and Cala add weather-rated bodies in materials like polyethylene and iroko wood. Each material choice is tied to a named collection rather than left general.

On every brand page these details stay factual and sourced. Collection names, designers and materials are checked against the maker before they go live.

Frequently asked

Marset, answered.

Where is Marset made?

Marset is a Spanish lighting house based in Terrassa, near Barcelona, where it runs an 11,000 square meter facility. The family company has roots in the Les Corts district of Barcelona from the 1940s and was based in Badalona for decades before the move.

When was Marset founded?

Marset began as a family metalworking foundry set up by Paco Marset in Barcelona in the 1940s. It moved into making luminaires around the mid-1960s, and the third generation reset the company around lighting design in the 1990s.

Is Marset furniture or lighting?

Marset is a lighting house, not a furniture maker. It designs decorative and architectural light: table and portable lamps, pendants, floor lamps, wall lights and outdoor fixtures.

What are Marset's signature collections?

Among the best known are Ginger, Bohemia and Cala by Joan Gaspar, FollowMe by Inma Bermudez, Dipping Light by Jordi Canudas, Tam Tam by Fabien Dumas, and Discoco by Christophe Mathieu.

Who designs for Marset?

Designers include Joan Gaspar, who has worked with the house since 1996 and guides much of its product direction, alongside Inma Bermudez, Jordi Canudas, Fabien Dumas, Christophe Mathieu and Sputnik Estudio.

What is the FollowMe lamp?

FollowMe is a portable, rechargeable table lamp designed by Inma Bermudez in 2014, with a wooden handle and a swinging shade. It was one of the early designs that opened up the cordless portable lamp category.

What materials does Marset use?

Powder-coated and anodised aluminium, steel, pressed wood veneers, hand-blown and moulded glass, polycarbonate and textile shades, all with LED sources. Outdoor lines add weather-rated materials such as polyethylene and iroko wood.

Does Marset make outdoor lighting?

Yes. Marset runs a dedicated outdoor program, including the Santorini lantern range by Sputnik Estudio and the Cala floor lamp by Joan Gaspar, built with weather-rated bodies for terraces and gardens.

Is Marset available in the US?

Yes. Marset has run its own branch in New York since 2010 and reaches the US market through authorised dealers, with lead times that vary by line and finish.

What is Marset's design style?

A warm, considered take on light itself rather than the fixture, built around long designer collaborations. The house frames its work as taking care of light, with collections that bring soft, reflected illumination to a space.

How should I care for Marset lamps?

Care depends on the material, whether wood veneer, glass, polycarbonate or textile, and on whether a fixture is rated for indoor or outdoor use. Follow the maker's collection-specific guidance, and treat outdoor pieces according to their weather rating.

Can I buy from this site?

No. Premium Furniture is an independent editorial directory. We document the house and point you to the maker.
