RiZZ
Dutch entrance design: doormats, brooms and umbrella stands made from the craft of a family brush factory, read for the US buyer.
Design for the entrance.
RiZZ began in 1941 as a brush factory in Nijkerk, in the Dutch province of Gelderland, founded by Hendrik Zuiddam and his brothers. Several generations of the Zuiddam family have run the business since. In 2001 Trudie Zuiddam set out to make, in her words, the best doormat in the world, turning the factory's brush-making knowledge toward the entrance. The first RiZZ doormat reached the Dutch market in 2006.
RiZZ presented internationally at Maison et Objet in Paris in September 2007 and now reaches buyers in cities including Amsterdam, Antwerp, Hamburg, London, Paris and New York. The catalogue has grown from the mat into a wider entrance collection of brooms, umbrella stands and accessories. For US buyers, products reach the market through authorised dealers and the maker's own site.

Outdoor Mat
Made in NijkerkThe RiZZ outdoor mat is the object the house is built around. A rounded aluminium frame, anodised and powder-coated against the weather, holds rows of brush strips set with an open structure between them. The strips scrape the soles of shoes, and the gaps let sand and grit fall through rather than collect on the surface.
It is offered in standard door, wide door and double-door sizes, plus custom dimensions, in finishes including anthracite, silver, black, white and sandy. A solid teak inlay can be added and either treated or left to grey naturally. RiZZ states a ten-year warranty across the mat range.
What the pieces are made of.
Across its entrance work RiZZ uses anodised, powder-coated aluminium, rust-free aluminium and stainless steel, solid teak, brush strips and an absorbent indoor pile finished with a genuine leather edge. The brush strips trace directly to the factory's origins as a brush maker, and teak is used as both an inlay and a broom handle.
On every brand page these details stay factual and sourced. Collection names, designers and materials are checked against the maker before they go live.
RiZZ, answered.
Where is RiZZ made?
RiZZ products are handmade in the Netherlands at the family factory in Nijkerk, in the province of Gelderland, where the business has run since 1941.
When was RiZZ founded?
The factory was founded in 1941 by Hendrik Zuiddam and his brothers as a brush maker. The RiZZ design doormat line began in 2001 and reached the market in 2006.
What does RiZZ make?
RiZZ makes design objects for the entrance: outdoor and indoor doormats, design brooms, umbrella stands and related accessories, rather than seating or larger furniture.
Who is behind RiZZ?
It is a family business run by the Zuiddam family. The design doormat concept was started by Trudie Zuiddam, and the work continued under Evert and Sebastiaan Zuiddam.
How does the RiZZ outdoor mat work?
Brush strips set in an aluminium frame scrape sand and dirt from the soles of shoes, and the open structure between the strips lets the debris fall through instead of staying on the surface.
What materials does RiZZ use?
Anodised, powder-coated aluminium and stainless steel, solid teak, brush strips, and an absorbent indoor pile with a genuine leather edge over a PVC-free anti-slip backing.
Can I get a RiZZ mat in a custom size?
Yes. The outdoor and indoor mats come in standard door, wide door and double-door sizes, and RiZZ also offers custom dimensions to fit a specific entrance.
Does RiZZ use teak?
Yes. Solid teak appears as an optional inlay on the mats and as the handle of the design brooms. Teak can be treated or left to grey naturally over time.
Who designs for RiZZ?
RiZZ has worked with product designer Teun Fleskens, who is credited with the stainless steel umbrella stands and is named on the maker's collaborations.
What is RiZZ's design style?
A pure, restrained and modern take on the entrance, where everyday objects like the doormat and broom are treated as considered design pieces rather than utilities.
Is RiZZ available in the US?
Yes. RiZZ reaches the US through authorised dealers and its own site. It has dealers in cities including New York, alongside European cities such as London and Paris.
Can I buy from this site?
No. Premium Furniture is an independent editorial directory. We document the house and point you to the maker.
